This article from the Sunday Times (ever the bastion of unquestionable reporting..) regards an interview with John Bolton.
The viewpoint is interesting, one among many. Two things to consider: Bolton is in a position to know a fair amount the public doesn't know, but certainly not everything. Also understand, this viewpoint was aired for a newspaper interview for public consumption, not an intel review. Motivation is everything.
That last point is what sticks in my mind. What is Boltons motivation, and more importantly what motivates those in power 'over there'? The answer to one would be interesting, the other key to the situation.
