What would you do?

I was reading through this mess..... mostly because I am tired, bored, and feel like something the dog dragged in. Probably allergies.

Anyway... the story struck a chord.

Long ago I made the decision to stop taking crap from all powerful schmucks and companies with no idea what consumer relations are about, let alone honesty.

What would you do if you were walking out of a store and somebody demanded to see a receipt? How about if one of the door alarm buzzers goes off?

My decision.... a polite request will be answered politely, and probably complied with as long as it's polite and respectful.

Impolite? Lack of respect? Demanding? Here we go!!!

I do not stop for door alarms, nor has anyone ever asked me too. Nobody has ever chased me out into a parking lot either. I have talked with store clerks who explain this simply..... the alarm is wrong 90% of the time, and they have no power to detain anyone anyway (nor desire).

I have made the conscious decision that an impolite demand will be dealt with by an order to get out of my way. An improper response will be dealt with by calling the police. An attempt at physical restraint will be judged an assault and I will defend myself with appropriate force as necessary, while my cell phone is open and on-line with the 911 operator if I can help it.

I've thought this out in advance, so I don't have to be unprepared later.

Am I a nightmare to have as a consumer? Only for some very few retailers and services. Surprisingly few. Most places I deal with are happy to see me and I treat employees very well.

That's not to say I haven't reduced the stray K-mart manager to tears when needed, but it's actually very rare.

What about you?
