Memishness

Borrowing this one from Squeakie..... and like her I am not tagging, just playing.

Here are the rules:
1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
2. Each player answers the questions about her or himself.
3. At the end of the post, tag 5-6 people and post their names, then go to their blogs and leave them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. (Like Squeakie, I am not tagging. Feel free to do this if you wish.... I read Linda's already)
4. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1) What was I doing ten years ago?

I was working in a shop, doing vehicle repair. Just a technician, and enjoying it.
It was shortly following a long time period (7 years) where I had run a business, and I was burnt out.... needed a rest as 'just a tech'.

2) What are five things on my to-do list today?

Today, I need to proctor a large number of certification tests. Three kinds
of certification testing spread over two classes of students, while at the same time dealing with tour groups of little kiddies admin is bringing around. Just to make it fun, some students are not testing, leaving us with a fourth group to be monitored.... and we are doing all of this with two instructors.
My to-do list today? 1) minimize chaos 2) maintain iron control 3) guide students through important testing, 4) drink too much coffee, 5) survive.

3) Snacks I enjoy?

Cheese. Chocolate. Salsa and chips. Strong black tea.

4) Things I would do if I was a billionaire?

This is a common day dream people have.... "If I could do anything I wanted..." which is what we are really asking.

Taken in those terms, I would be doing exactly what I am doing now for a while longer. Yes, things would change somewhat, but I would still teach. That is, until I had my fill of administration and the other petty demands the system makes on teachers.

Then.... a home in the mountains. I'm not sure if that would be eastern or western mountains. Someplace with a lot of land to explore... walk.... enjoy. At least five hundred acres of private land with full geo rights.

The house... not too large. Stone, heavy wood, very solid. The kind of place that will be standing in two hundred years, whether anyone pays attention or not.
Wood stoves, passive solar heat, solar electric, wind generation, backup diesels, all to supplement the failing power systems of the country.
Satellite communications to back up land lines.

The house.... design, decoration, appointment... all guided by my best friend to her satisfaction. Her taste is flawless.
Outbuilding: A pole barn. Large enough to park half a dozen vehicles. On one end, four separate shops. Wood, metal, forge, and craft. Power, heat, and communications in the shops. Natural lighting where possible.

On the property, another small home. This one for a friend to use, in exchange for
work on the property. Yes, I have a craftsman in mind. He's the buddy I hunt and fish with on occasion, and his work is flawless. A true Renaissance craftsman in many ways.

My time... Our time... taken up by LIVING. Writing, photography, shooting, working at loved tasks..... just living life to it's fullest. Entertaining friends, good food, good health..... good life.

5) Places I have lived?

Pennsylvania: Broomall, Coatsville, Media, Folcroft, Nottingham, Holtwood, Gap.
Florida: Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Brandon.

6) Bad habits?

Procrastination on things I don't want to do. A tendency to jump to conclusions. (not always bad, but sometimes). I often speak over someone, not allowing them to finish (RUDE). Many days I have little or no patience.

7) Jobs I have held?

Gas jockey, mechanic, technician, office staff, business manager, foreman, instructor, stable hand, courier, column writer.... often several at the same time.

8) People I want to know more about?

The list is short. I am not a social animal, but I am a pack animal.... if that makes sense. Those I care about, I find very interesting. Maybe that's why I care about them? Those I don't care about..... I have very little interest in.
My kids.... my best friend...... a couple of other friends... some bloggers.... many of my students. People I have never met or communicated with, I seldom get interested in. Famous people do nothing for me at all.

And now.... more questions.... because this is my blog!

9) Favorite firearm?

Probably the Browning 1911 design, in the commander format. I love mine.
I carry a S+W M+P 9mm, when I do carry, as the colt is more heavy than I wish for daily carry. The colt fits like a second skin, but the M+P is a close runner up.

10) Dream vacation?

Six months, a stack of cash, a new truck, and my best friend. Drive where we wish, when we wish, why we wish. See what we want. Come back home till we are tired of seeing it, then leave again. Shucks, might just stay home and play with the dog.

11) What frightens you?

The thought of a student getting hurt while in my care.

No tags on this one.. since it's a private blog anyway.
If you want to, take it away and have fun with it.

I answered this one elsewhere, but here it is.

1) What was I doing ten years ago?
Corporate pilot, weekends in Bermuda, nights in Detroit. .a lot of miles and good food and a very empty life in many ways.

2) What are five things on my to-do list today?
Put together a huge stack of evidence, catalog many many pieces of ex moving parts. Paperwork, it never ends. Eat lunch IN for a change, saving money, brown bagging it. Leftover poofy breakfast caserole and a Ciabatta roll. Play with Yogi.

3) Snacks I enjoy?

Cheese. Chocolate. Strong black tea (and cake!), chips and salsa (or chips with just a bit of sharp cheddar cheese melted on them and salsa), Cashews. Vanilla ice cream.

4) Things I would do if I was a billionaire?
I think that I might quit my job and write full time. Just do "expert witness" stuff on the side to keep that area of my life alive, but not full time. Buy a cub and/or a light jet. . perhaps a Citation which I am licensed now to fly single pilot (so my copilot doesn't have to be a licensed pilot), to commute to friends and perhaps a weekend or other home. Buy lots of books. Outside of that, little change, place in the mountains, that's self sufficient from civilization and completely private, just myself a couple close friends to stay and or visit, and someone to do the work I'm too lazy or plumbingly challenged to do.

5) Places I have lived? Welcome to the life of a pilot.
Longview WA, Cannon Beach, OR, Seattle, Toledo, WA, Epsom Surrey, UK., London England, Portland, Vancouver, Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Billings & Ozark MO, Willoughby, Ohio, Avon, Ohio, and the present location.

6) Bad habits?

(1)I'm President of the Local Procrastianors Club. You can join but I'm just getting around to processing the applications from 2005 (2) I interrupt people. A lot. Walk right over their words as my brain just spews out like a bad pipe. It's Rude. (3) I'm impatient,

7) Jobs I have held?
Worked at a Texaco Station, Drove one of those huge fuel trucks at teh airport fueling jets, model (White Stag skiwear, catalog stuff) receptionist in a funeral home, food demonstrator at a grocery store (Apron - have I got a weiner for you!) Aviation Insurance Underwriter intern at Lloyd's of London, College Teacher (aeronautics, gas turbine engine technology, meteorology), flight instructor, crop duster, corporate pilot, airline captain, test pilot, ferry pilot, fry cook at a Taco Time, and Sub Sandwich assembly Goddess at "the Yellow Submarine" (yes the decor was very Beatles and 70's)

8) People I want to know more about? I'm learning about them now. My pack is small and tight knit. I'm not a social butterfly.

9) Favorite firearm?
Browning 1911 as well, Sig Sauer 220. Belgium Browning 20 g, semi auto. You already know the other guns I own.

10) Dream vacation?
Hit the southwest with my best friend for a month or two. Come back, play with the dog a while, then go up the mountains and sit around the fire and tell stories and drink Mead and listen to the earth rotate. No crowds, no committments. If I was that billionaire thing I'd like a few weeks in a neat old house perched on the rocks on a rugged coastline or Loch somewhere as well.
Stay home and play with the dog.

11) What frightens you?
Flat edged weapons. Not handling them. Just. . don't know. . don't like them. Werewolves (you know. . if they were real) and small enclosed places where I can't move my arms or legs.
