Dinner this evening..
I call it "Hasty Vulture Stew".
Named such, because it's quick and easy, for a good beef stew, and the youngens hover like vultures till it's done, then attack.
This appears when I have left over beef around. Not a true beef stew, simmered for hours, stirred with love.... But a quick stew for the masses.
Into the dutch oven goes a large bag of frozen stew veggies, two cans of new potatoes, a large can of cream of mushroom soup, a matching can of water, all the leftover beef I have, cubed small, some kosher salt, and fresh pepper.
Lid her up, then bake at 375 for an hour.
After an hour, add a teaspoon of dried rosemary. Stir it well.
Then top with a layer of flaky Grands biscuits. Back in the same oven for another 15 minutes (lid off). Pull it out, yell "Stews Done!", then back quickly away from the pot.
I call it 'hasty' because prep time is all of five minutes. Cooking time does not count.
Um... there is none left.

yum. . . I can see why the little ones love that. . and their Mom and your Son too I bet. . .I'd be waiting at the table that's for sure.
Thanks for sharing the recipe. .
nite. .
You would make a FABULOUS camp cook!
OK lin. now I have to tell this story. My Dad used to work as a cook with a group that worked for a forestry service. They'd be out in the mountains of Montana for long periods of time, with horses and gear. The cook position wasn't official. . usually one of the new employees got stuck with it. Dad does NOT like to cook (though late in life learned to grill like a master). The rule was. . You had to cook until someone else complained about the meal. Then THAT person would be the new cook. One day, tired of the job, Dad salt and peppered and fried up a big horse turd patty. And served it up. . One of the fellow sniffed, cut into it and brought it to his mouth for a nibble. . then exclaimed. My GOD. . This is a horse turd!. .(big pause) . . but it's GOOD!
So in our house, after Mom died and Dad would have to cook, we'd greet some of the lovingly prepared, but less than steller meals. . with "but it's Good!!! and we'd all just bust up and order pizza.
Silly but it was good to see Dad laugh again.
Lin, that is a wonderful story...
Thanks!
That is a FANTASTIC story, Lin!!! Loved it!
That is such a clever recipe, and one which I'll have to emulate. Yum!
Ah-hah-hah - our old equivalent was 'moose turd pie#%&!? ... best I ever had though!" Must be a universal standard for sticking someone with the camp cooking. I think a folk singer even immortalized moose turd pie in a shaggy dog song - it really was hilarious. This had crossed my mind briefly when carteach used the term 'vulture' in naming his stew. I began wondering if anyone had ever been desperate to create something like Buzzard Bourguignon.
