Some sample test question... from the 'easy' test tomorrow
These questions are taken straight from tomorrows test (brake section).
This is the 'easy test', and preparing for the hard one next week.
Remember, the majority of my students were barely passing in regular high
school and most have an 'IEP' specifying special learning needs.
Right.... sure.......
True or false?
1) Most brake fluids are hygroscopic, and should not be exposed to air.
2) Most DOT brake fluid can be mixed with each other in use.
Complete these sentances, or write a short answer:
1) To stop a vehicle, __________ energy is converted to _________ energy.
2) Parallelism and runout are both measurements made to ________ ________.
3) Name two reasons a vehicle can lose brake pressure when applied.
4) Name two places disc brake assemblies must be lubricated.
There are another 30 or so questions on this warm up test. It counts for full credit, but is considered an easy one by me. The bigger test, next week, will have about 60 questions on it and be much, much harder. Every year I get hounded by the learning facilitators to make tests shorter and easier for the poor little darlings.
Well..... bull. I test them hard, and they have to work for it.
How would you feel with someone servicing your brakes who had tests made 'easy'?
The kicker..... almost all the students will give me 75% or better on these tests... despite how hard I make them. The kids can do it. It's just that nobody ever forced them to prove it before.

So much better still than the FAA written exam questions. .
What colour is the Lone Rangers White Horse?
(a) True
(b) False
Lol..... and a bit scary (g)
I sometimes write easy ones, and those are the ones they miss.
It's hard to teach them that sometimes the answer really IS that easy, and not to overlook it because of that.
I must have said that 1000 times this year... "Yes, sometimes it really IS that easy!"
