Meme: Passion Quilt

Ok, so she tagged me. It's an educators Meme.... so I guess it fits. Thing is, the rules say to tag five other teachers..... and I don't know any other blogging teachers but her and the ones she already tagged! I'll play.... but will fail on the tagging end.

The photo: '1000 hours', that being how much work can go into two top fuel cylinder heads.

THE RULES:

Post a picture or make/take/create your own that captures what YOU are most passionate for students to learn about.

Give your picture a short title.

Title your blog post “Meme: Passion Quilt.”

Link back to this blog entry. (Hers is: Cranky Prof)

Include links to 5 (or more) educators.

One thing I try most to drive home to my students.... is to think about the results of what they do. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, will have some result.
Each and every choice we make shapes our futures, and the future of those around us.

In fact, we are the product of our own choices....... and what we are and what we become can be laid solely at our own feet.

To young people who for the most part have been allowed to drift through life without consequence for their actions, or been told it's 'not their fault', this can be a hard pill to swallow.

If I do nothing else all school year but get this one concept across... I have done them a service that will last them their entire lives.

Why the photo above? In taking students to NHRA drag racing, I point out the care that goes into preparing the vehicles. Working quietly, carefully, and professionally each car is lovingly set up and serviced by technicians who know the race will begin and end on the least detail.... and it's all on their shoulders.
This is a sobering lesson.....

Teaching students to fly was like that. Sometimes, when we were upside down, or spinning towards the earth, some would just LET GO and say. . "you've got it". . expecting me to recover for them, when they knew how. Life doesn't give you those options, and they best learn that early on and young.

They're lucky to have your example.

GREAT photo by the way.

High praise from one who is experienced.... thank you!

Re: the photo.... it's the raw shot. Once cropped and touched up for lighting/contrast it really looks good. Lucky I am.....
